Description

“How did it all begin? / They had a good time together. / It changed his life.”

Portrayed through blackout poetry and illustrated with mixed-media collage, Such Fond Memories tells the story of two young lovers as they navigate love, marriage, and parenthood. What happens when it all falls apart? As the relationship grows and changes over time, so does each individual, leaving room for what could have been and what will be over the long road of marriage.

From the halcyon days of early marriage (“Let’s stay here a moment and savor the view. / I can’t believe that we’re looking at forever”), to the trenches of work and family life, (“Make the money, purchase the upper hand / and get into money trouble”), Such Fond Memories catalogs a forty-year marriage, chronicling the wild ways love is shown and what that really means.

Fans of Austin Kleon’s Newspaper Blackout and PostSecret’s scrappy aesthetic will love this unusual mixed-media love story created with vintage images, repurposed junk, thrift store photos, and found ephemera. Such Fond Memories is a fun and surreal love story about a couple who worked hard to find and keep love, inspiring all those who experience its pages.
